Outpatient Drug Rehab in Charleston, SC

Evidence-based treatment that fits your life — no residential stay required.

Outpatient vs. Residential Treatment

Residential treatment (inpatient rehab) requires you to live at a facility for 30 days or more. For many patients, this is simply not feasible — they cannot take a month off work, they have children to care for, or they cannot afford the out-of-pocket cost of residential programs. Outpatient treatment at Hope Addiction Medicine in West Ashley allows you to receive evidence-based medication-assisted treatment through scheduled appointments while maintaining your normal routine. You come to our office for evaluations and follow-up visits, take your prescribed medication, and continue living your life.

Who Benefits from Outpatient Treatment?

Outpatient MAT is appropriate for patients with stable housing and a basic support structure, patients who cannot take extended time off work, patients stepping down from residential treatment who need long-term outpatient medication management, patients with family obligations that prevent residential stays, and first-time treatment seekers with mild to moderate substance use disorders. If you need medically supervised detoxification, we can refer you to an appropriate facility and begin MAT immediately after your discharge.

What Outpatient Looks Like at Our Practice

Initial evaluation (45-60 minutes), medication initiation (same day or next day when appropriate), weekly follow-up visits during stabilization, biweekly to monthly visits during maintenance. Each visit includes clinical assessment, medication management, urine drug screens, and compliance documentation if court-ordered. For patients on Sublocade, monthly visits involve a single injection that provides 30 days of medication. The entire process is designed to be minimally disruptive to your daily life while providing the medical support you need for sustained recovery.

Post-Residential Transition

Many patients complete 30-day residential programs and are discharged without a long-term medication management plan. This gap in care is one of the most common reasons for relapse. Hope Addiction Medicine serves as the outpatient MAT provider for patients transitioning from residential treatment — we are often able to schedule your first visit within a week of discharge. Patients from across the greater Charleston area choose our West Ashley office for this critical continuity of care.
